Be Active Scheme

The Lewisham Be Active Scheme offers Lewisham residents access to the concession prices on various physical activities at Downham Health and Leisure Centre.

You can join the Be Active Scheme if you are a Lewisham resident, aged over 16 and you meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Eligible for certain benefits (council tax reductions, housing benefit or universal credit tax credits (not child tax credit), income support, jobseeker's allowance or employment and support allowance).
• Aged 60 or over.
• A carer (paid or professional) of a disabled adult who lives in the borough or care for a disabled child who lived in the borough and is a library member.
• A child in care e.g. resides in a foster home.

Free Access

Lewisham residents with a registered disability (blue badge holder, a disability freedom pass holder or get a disability living allowance, attendance allowance or personal independence payments), you will qualify for the following:

• Free swimming
• Free use of the gym, including a group inductions
• 25% off the cost of most activities

How To Apply

Please come into the centre with 1 form of ID. The below options are available: 

• Photo ID
• Recent proof of residency
• A benefit letter
• A pension letter
• A freedom pass
• An NUS card
• A confirmation of student status letter
• An income support letter
• A certificate of registration for disabled people
